Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is one of the three economic immigration programs managed by the Express Entry system in Canada. The other two programs are the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

  1. Express Entry System:

    • The Express Entry system is a points-based immigration system used by the Canadian government to manage and select candidates for immigration to Canada.
    • Candidates create an online profile and are awarded points based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability.
  2. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP):

    • The FSWP is designed for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently.
    • To be eligible for the FSWP, candidates must meet certain criteria, including having at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent part-time work experience in a skilled occupation within the last 10 years, language proficiency, and sufficient settlement funds.
  3. Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS):

    • Candidates in the Express Entry pool are assigned a CRS score based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability.
    • The highest-ranking candidates are invited to apply for permanent residence through regular draws conducted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
  4. Invitation to Apply (ITA):

    • Candidates with the highest CRS scores are issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence.
    • Once an ITA is received, candidates have a limited time (usually 60 days) to submit a complete application for permanent residence.
  5. Application Process:

    • Successful candidates must submit a complete application along with supporting documents, including proof of work experience, educational credentials, language proficiency results, and other required documents.
    • Applicants are assessed based on factors such as medical exams, security checks, and the validity of their documentation.
  6. Permanent Residence:

    • If the application is approved, candidates and their accompanying family members become permanent residents of Canada.
    • Permanent residents have the right to live, work, or study anywhere in Canada and can eventually apply for Canadian citizenship.
