Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is another component of the Canadian immigration system that works in conjunction with the Express Entry system. The PNP allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals for permanent residence based on their specific economic needs.

  1. Express Entry Profile:

    • Individuals who are interested in immigrating to Canada through the PNP must first create an Express Entry profile and meet the eligibility criteria for one of the three main programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), or Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
  2. Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Nomination:

    • Provinces and territories in Canada have their own PNP streams, each with its own criteria and requirements.
    • If a province or territory identifies a candidate in the Express Entry pool who meets their specific needs, they can issue a nomination to that candidate.
  3. Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Points:

    • A PNP nomination adds 600 points to the candidate’s CRS score. This significantly increases the candidate’s chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
  4. Express Entry Draw and Invitation to Apply (ITA):

    • Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducts regular draws from the Express Entry pool. Candidates with the highest CRS scores, including the additional points from a PNP nomination, are issued ITAs.
  5. Application for Permanent Residence:

    • Once an ITA is received, candidates have a limited time (usually 60 days) to submit a complete application for permanent residence, including all required documents.
  6. Approval and Permanent Residence:

    • If the application is approved, the candidate and their family members become permanent residents of Canada.
